Priscilla Beaulieu had become deeply connected to Elvis and had moved to Memphis under circumstances shaped by expectations about their future. Elvis had already made commitments, and Ann-Margret understood that those promises could not simply disappear because he had fallen deeply for someone else.
That realization made their separation especially painful. Ann-Margret did not portray Elvis as suddenly losing interest in her. The dates surrounding their eventual marriages make the story even more striking. On May 1, 1967, Elvis married Priscilla. Exactly one week later, on May 8, Ann-Margret married Roger Smith. Unlike a tragic Hollywood fantasy, however, Ann-Margret did not spend the rest of her life waiting for Elvis. Her marriage to Roger lasted 50 years, until his death in 2017.
Yet Elvis remained a meaningful part of her memories.
For years, whenever Ann-Margret opened a new Las Vegas engagement, Elvis reportedly sent her guitar-shaped floral arrangements. It became a quiet tradition—a personal reminder that although their romance had ended, the affection and respect between them had not disappeared.
