Music quickly brought them closer, and they later recorded the duet House of Love. At the time, however, both were married to other people.
Their relationship remained complicated for years, and both faced public speculation and judgment. Gill later reflected on how painful it was that people often assumed the worst without knowing the truth. Eventually, both marriages ended, and Gill and Grant were finally able to build a life together. They married in March 2000 in a small outdoor ceremony near Nashville, surrounded by family and children.
Their marriage would later be tested by serious health challenges. In 2020, Grant underwent open-heart surgery after doctors discovered a congenital heart condition. Two years later, she suffered a traumatic brain injury after a bicycle accident. Gill immediately canceled performances to stay beside her, becoming a steady source of support during an extraordinarily difficult period.
Through everything, Gill’s philosophy has remained remarkably simple: take life one day at a time, stay honest, and let the music come from a genuine place.
