In recent years, mobility problems have made walking difficult and largely prevented him from playing the instrument that helped define his career.
The most frightening chapter reportedly came in 2024. According to Collins’ account, his condition became serious enough that his longtime manager contacted his family. His five children include actress Lily Collins, who has repeatedly made clear that behind the global fame and musical legacy, Phil is simply her father.
“People were coming to say goodbye,” Collins recalled of that period, adding that he remembers little of those visits. After an extended period of hospitalization and treatment, however, his story did not end there. He has since said he stopped drinking and turned his attention toward something that fame could never replace: time with his children.
That change gave Collins something deeply meaningful. The family later gathered in London for a weekend filled not with concerts or cameras, but board games, meals, laughter, conversations and tears. Collins described the experience as extraordinary.
There is a painful honesty behind why those ordinary moments now matter so much. Collins spent enormous stretches of his life touring and working, and he has acknowledged wanting to make up for some of the family time he missed.
For fans accustomed to seeing Phil Collins behind a drum kit beneath stadium lights, perhaps the most powerful image today is much quieter: a father surrounded by his children, appreciating the time still available to them.
His career has already given the world an extraordinary musical legacy. But Collins himself offered perhaps the most important reminder of where his story stands now:
