Introduction:

Not all of Elvis Presley’s hits were rockers with swinging hips and electrifying guitar riffs. “Ask Me”, released in 1964, showcased a different side of the King. This ballad, a cover of the Italian song “Io” by Domenico Modugno, allowed Presley to croon with a smoothness that contrasted with his more energetic performances.

“Ask Me” wasn’t a single release on its own, but rather the B-side to “Ain’t That Loving You Baby”. B-sides were the songs featured on the flip side of singles, often seen as less prominent than the A-side. However, “Ask Me” still managed to find an audience. It was backed by The Jordanaires, a vocal group that frequently collaborated with Presley, providing rich harmonies for his vocals.

While “Ask Me” didn’t top the charts, it did achieve some success. It reached number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. It also served as a reminder of Presley’s versatility as a singer. He could deliver both the high-octane rock and roll that made him famous, as well as slower, more romantic ballads like “Ask Me”.

“Ask Me” was produced by RCA Records, Presley’s longtime record company. It was recorded during a prolific period in his career. In 1964 alone, Presley released three studio albums and an EP. “Ask Me” was included on the “Elvis Presley Sings Everybody’s Favorite Movie Hits” album.

While “Ask Me” may not be one of Presley’s most instantly recognizable songs, it has endured as a favorite among some fans. The song’s tenderness showcases a different emotional side of Presley and is a testament to his vocal talents. Even amidst a career filled with rock and roll classics, “Ask Me” stands out as a beautiful ballad from the King of Rock and Roll.
